Corrosion on the inside of the bin.

Diagram.jpg

The construction of the bin creates openings that allow the water to enter between the sheets.

Most bins are not damaged from the grain however, the damage comes from excessive water damage. To prevent water damage Stiffener bolts are installed with gaskets only on the inside allowing water to travel along the bolt and accumulate in the space between the laminated sheets. The water will seek the easiest location to run out, usually the bolt seam at the ends of the sheets. Water could leak anywhere the caulking is not properly applied. Some of the stiffener bolts need to be removed and inspected for signs of corrosion. To eliminate water damage coating should be applied along the sides of the stiffener to seal the leaking bolts.
